Star Ranch Bed & Breakfast  bedroom with private bath, adjustable queen bed, free breakfast & outdoor hot tub Free breakfast included. Your western bedroom has a queen bed with adjustable softness/firmness controls for each side. There is a bathroom just for your use. We are 30 minutes from Santa Fe and 1 hour from Taos. Our village is historic and quaint. The Space You will be staying in our "Bunkhouse" bedroom which features a dual-control, adjustable, queen bed and lovely, antique, western decor. The entrance door to the house is just a few feet from your room. The Bunkhouse bathroom is decorated in a western theme and is for your use only. A privacy curtain allows you to walk between the bedroom and bath without being seen. The bathroom has a large tub and a shower. There is no tv in the guest room, but the internet is available to guests with free high speed Wi-Fi. A small space heater is available if you are chilly. A room humidifier is available if the air is too dry. We have air conditioning in the room, but we use it rarely, since the summer evenings are cool here. There is also a fan available if the room seems too warm. Guest Access Guests are welcome in our main living spaces (dining, library, laundry and kitchen) including the TV room where we can play movies and tv for you up on a wall screen. There is a coffee maker, tea kettle, microwave and fridge available at all times. Our 3 acre property can be explored at any time. Our hot tub and patio are available to guests between 8am and 10pm. Interaction with Guests We will serve our guests breakfast. We are usually home and are available to answer questions. We speak English and a tiny bit of Spanish. Our village is fairly remote, so we suggest that visitors have their own car. However, if this is not possible, we may be able provide transportation to and from the airport in Albuquerque and rides to local attractions...for an additional fee. The Neighborhood The village of Chimayo is 30 minutes north of Santa Fe and 1 hour west of Taos. The scenery in this area is spectacular! Mountains, sandstone cliffs, dry river beds, and more. We are surrounded by Indian villages called Pueblos. The Spanish culture in this region extends back into the 1600's. The most visited Catholic shrines in the US is located one mile from our home - El Santuario de Chimayo. We are also 20-30 minutes away from 5 different casinos that offer food, entertainment and gambling. Getting Around There is plenty of free parking at our home. There is a regional bus service near us that connects Chimayo, Taos, Espanola and Santa Fe. I haven't used these buses, but I do see them on the road. The bus stop is a 5 minute walk from our house. With prior arrangement, we may be able to pick you up and drop you off at the airport in Albuquerque for an additional fee. The average high temperature in Chimayo in December is 47F and the average low is 15F.  Please take this into account when driving out into the country at night.  Make sure you have adquate warm clothing for an extended wait for assistance. You may not have cell coverage away from larger towns. Other Things to Note We do not accept guest pets. We have a cat and two dogs. One is a husky and the other an elderly Maltese.  They are very friendly and they have the run of most of the house. We have a small gate to keep the pets away from the guest room and bath. Cell coverage can be spotty in this region. Our house is at 6300 feet (1900m) above sea level. If you have heart or breathing problems, you must take extra care at this elevation. We have shallow steps into the house. If you are dependent on a wheelchair or scooter, we currently cannot accommodate you. There is a grab bar in your bathroom to help with using the toilet and to hold while entering and leaving the tub/shower. House Rules We request that our guests use common courtesy and manners.  No smoking inside the house.  You may smoke outside on our porches and our patio, but not on our extended grounds due to fire risk.  Please, no excessive noise after 10pm; no parties with large groups; no use of illegal drugs or underage drinking.  Marijuana is still illegal in New Mexico.  Please note the drinking age in the US is 21 years. It's a great and comfortable place!!

Darren and his wife from Ontario Judith and Joe were great hosts. While their place is out of town it was an a very interesting setting and not too far from Santa Fe (30 minutes). Chimayo is a textile haven with one of the best restaurants (but casual in style) in the State. Highly recommend. Jeremiah from Texas
Judith and her husband Joe are wonderful hosts. My month-long stay was pleasant, the room and bathroom was cozy and clean, and I would definitely stay again. In fact, I already have since I became close friends with the couple and their son. Scott and his wife from North Carolina If you are looking for an experience that allows you to engage with a local family, experience the wide open spaces with a beautiful night sky (you can even see the Milky Way) and hospitality that rivals any we received...look no further as it is all here. The room and bathroom were beautifully appointed with all the things you would find in a high end hotel. Of all the places we stayed, this was by far our favorite and only wished we could have stayed longer. Doug and his son from Texas Very enjoyable and comfortable place to stay. Definitely quiet and remote but beautiful setting. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend!! Linda and her husband from Wash. DC Chimayo is a very old community and gives a sense of life in Northern NM that is not like spending time in more touristy Santa Fe. The Star Ranch compliments! There is a garden filled with northern NM flowers and plants, plus a small pond for relaxing. Judith, our host, was a good listener and is helpful on the practical aspects of touring! Her home is very, very clean and she pays special attention to guests getting a good night's sleep-- extra pillows and soft, smooth Cotten sheets. And the stars we could see! Thanks, Judith, for being a really good host!

If you have any difficulty booking your room through airbnb.com,
The best route when driving from Santa Fe to Chimayó is to turn east off of North Highway 84/285 onto Highway 503 in Nambe.  Take 503 east and then turn left on Juan Medina road to Chimayo.  This intersection is well marked with signs for Chimayo and the Santuario.  The scenery is a vast expanse of red sandstone cliffs with mountains in the background.
PLEASE NOTE Cell phone service is very spotty in this entire region.  To prevent getting lost, please make paper printouts of any needed maps OR bring a GPS that uses satelite data.
